WaterpikTM PowerPulse Therapeutic Strength Massage: Helps to Relieve General Stress

A Home Use Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of a Shower Device in Alleviating the Symptoms Associated with Self-Assessed General Stress

Objective

To determine the effectiveness of the WaterpikTM PowerPulse Therapeutic Strength Massage shower head in alleviating the symptoms associated with self-assessed tension due to stress when used under typical home-use conditions. This device provides a proprietary pulsating massage.

Methodology

Fifty-three (53) healthy male and females subjects, 21 – 65 years of age, who were experiencing self-assessed generalized physical stress/tension (at the neck, shoulders, upper or lower back) were enrolled into the study. The subjects were issued the WaterpikTM PowerPulse Massage shower head and instructed to use it on the affected area every day for 14 days.

Subjects set the spray mode to PowerPulse Massage and pointed the Therapeutic Strength Massage on the targeted areas where tension due to stress was experienced (identified at enrollment) using the pulsating water flow to massage this area for 2-5 minutes. Subjects were given a daily diary to record use of the PowerPulse shower head and any comments. At the end of the use period, they returned to the test facility to complete a self-perception questionnaire.

Results

Results from the questionnaire indicated that:

  • 98% of the panel (52 of 53 subjects) began to perceive relief from their stress/tension within just 2 minutes and up to 5 minutes of using PowerPulse Therapeutic Strength Massage.
  • 85% (45 of 53) agreed or strongly agreed the Therapeutic Strength Massage spray was soothing.
  • 83% (44 of 53) agreed or strongly agreed the Therapeutic Strength Massage spray helped to relieve their stress/tension.
  • 79% (42 of 53) reported they felt overall more relaxed after using the massage spray on their body.

Conclusion

This consumer use study demonstrates that regular use of the PowerPulse Therapeutic Strength Massage shower head can quickly deliver soothing relief from body tension caused by daily general stress.
